Corin's lung cancer diagnosis was delayed by a hospital cyber attack!
My GP initially treated me for asthma and a nasal drip
I'm Corin, and I'm 45, a mum to two cricket-mad boys. I love exercising at the gym, going on holiday and playing cricket.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 EGFR+ lung cancer earlier this year. I’d been experiencing a persistent cough, shortness of breath, and coughing up blood.
My GP treated me for asthma and nasal drip initially. I was told verbally at the hospital to repeat my X-ray after 4 weeks, as it was likely just due to an infection. Given there was a cyber attack I didn't expect an appointment letter so turned up at X-ray 4 weeks later. The radiologist couldn't do the X-ray as she said notes said repeat in 6 weeks. I then waited a further 2 weeks to redo the X-ray - in that time period I was in considerable pain and passing out from coughing.
Self-care to me means looking after myself, eating well, exercising and trying to reduce any stress. I enjoy spending time with friends and family and getting out from the house, as I spent far too much time in the house working from home. I love being by the sea, and in nature in general.
"My first X-ray showed a shadow on my lung, but the hospital was experiencing a cyber attack so the GP couldn’t see the X-ray." - Corin
