Father, Worker, Survivor: James's Journey with Three Young Boys

James was diagnosed with Stage IV ALK+ lung cancer while raising three young children

I'm James, a 45 year old father of 3 young boys who keep me active. I enjoy the memories they give me and try to stay healthy by keeping up with them, going to the gym, and following my wife's example of using breathwork to stay focused.

When I received my diagnosis in 2024, it was Stage IV ALK+ lung cancer. I had been experiencing a persistent cough and a lump in my neck.

I have found the effort I put into meditation and journaling prior to my diagnosis really helped me cope with what came after. I'm back working full time and realised that self-care is about giving myself time between treatment and work to internalise what is happening and be grateful for how fortunate I am.
