Finding Calm in Uncertainty: Natasha’s EGFR+ Lung Cancer Story
I was misdiagnosed with tuberculosis before discovering I had lung cancer
I'm Natasha, a teacher who loves spending time outdoors with my family and our two dogs. I practice yoga a few times a week as it helps calm my nervous system and gives me a real sense of peace. I also love walking in the woods and keeping active - exercise makes me feel stronger and more in control.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with stage 3 EGFR+ lung cancer. Before that, I’d had a persistent cough, a croaky voice, and constant fatigue. I was initially misdiagnosed with tuberculosis. The original plan was to start chemotherapy to shrink the tumour before surgery. But it was later discovered that, under NICE guidance, chemotherapy must come after surgery for patients to access osimertinib as adjuvant therapy. This caused a delay, and by the time my surgery date was set, the cancer had spread to my brain.
Despite these setbacks, I focus on the things that bring me strength and peace. They help me look after both my physical and mental wellbeing as I continue through treatment.
"I love walking in the woods and taking regular exercise - I feel a sense of empowerment when exercising.” - Natasha
