My first symptom of lung cancer was a persistent cough

I’m Sara, a 15-year survivor of aggressive breast cancer. In 2023, I was diagnosed with stage 4 EGFR+ lung cancer after developing a persistent cough. Having already faced cancer once, I know the reality of this challenge - but I also know the value of hope, perspective, and connection.

I work with healthcare teams as a volunteer, promoting patient partnership — not just in my own care, but across healthcare more broadly. Staying involved gives me purpose and helps me feel part of something bigger.

Self-care for me is getting out in every weather condition, walking, talking, and embracing the preciousness of the smallest things: sunrises, sunsets, daisies, dandelions, and a Greggs hot sausage roll. Having a Netflix series on the go is fantastic at any hour of the day or night when I just need to shut out thoughts.
