Submissions are now open for our 2025 All You Need is Lungs Campaign!
Volunteer Hub
Welcome to the All You Need is Lungs Campaign Volunteer Hub. Thank you for choosing to be a part of our campaign for Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
The All You Need is Lungs campaign is a collaborative effort by three registered lung cancer charities - ALK+ UK, EGFR+ UK, and the Ruth Strauss Foundation. Together, we aim to raise awareness about lung cancer by sharing personal stories from people like you, showing that anyone can get lung cancer and also sharing hope and inspiration.
We're actively building our campaign now, so please submit your materials as soon as possible to ensure your story can be included. The earlier we receive your submission, the more opportunity we'll have to feature your story.
Before you start, you might like to take a look at some of last year’s submissions - in particular Jenny’s and John’s are good examples of what we’re looking for - especially for the range of images in different settings and the distance from camera in the talking videos.
Please carefully follow the instructions below to ensure we get the best possible content from you.
How to Submit Your Photos and Videos
Step 1: Complete the form (click the button below to access) with your details and consent. You’ll also find a section to upload your images and videos. You can submit images and videos or one or the other - it’s up to you.
Step 2: Follow the guidelines below to prepare your photos and videos before uploading. Please use your smartphone for all photos and videos to ensure ease of submission, uniformity and quality. Always shoot in portrait (i.e. with your phone held vertically).
Photo Guidelines
Ideally, please don’t include other people in your photos, but pets are very welcome! If you do include an image with an additional person we will require a separate permission form for them.
Environment: Choose a comfortable and relatable environment that feels like you. Whether it’s outdoors, at home, or in a space that expresses who you are – make it personal. If you enjoy cooking, knitting, gardening, or tending to your allotment, feel free to incorporate these activities into your photo to reflect your unique personality and interests.
Framing: Keep yourself centred in the frame with some good space above your head. Ideally, your head should take up no more than 1/3 of the image (can be smaller). Make sure to include some of your arms for a more natural, comfortable look.
Shoot a little wider: Leave extra space around you so we can crop if needed.
No large logos on your clothing or in the background.
Existing photos: Feel free to submit any high-quality images already on your phone that follow these guidelines.
Quality: Please use your smartphone to take your photos ensuring you submit clear, well-lit photos only, and avoid filters or effects.
Video Guidelines
We’re looking for two types of videos:
Talking Head: This is where you look directly into the camera and talk - about 60-90 seconds is ideal (but we will only use a fraction of this for social media). This should help you to structure your video:
Introduce yourself
Tell us the month and year you were diagnosed
Give us details of your diagnosis; type, stage
Talk about your initial symptoms - we need to get across the normality of symptoms eg. An ongoing cough in winter, weight loss feeling good
Were you misdiagnosed? If so, tell us about this.
We'd also love to hear how you use self-care to cope with and make the most of life with lung cancer
B-roll: This is casual, extra footage where you're not speaking to the camera. It could be video of you doing something simple like walking, reading, or even making a cup of tea. Aim for around 30 seconds per video (you can submit multiple if you like). Don’t worry - we will edit these clips and may only use short sections. Don’t worry about background noise on these as we’ll won’t use the audio from your video.
Quiet environment: Find a quiet place to record your talking head videos, where background noise is minimal to ensure clear audio. Good audio is just as important as the video quality.
Stability for recording: Use a tripod or find a stable surface to prop your phone up to keep your video footage steady.
Framing: As with photos, keep yourself centred, leave space around you, and ensure the lighting is good. No large logos in the background or on clothing.
Video format: Use your smartphone to record vertical video (portrait) and pause for 3-5 seconds after you hit record and before you start speaking. When you finish, pause for another few seconds before turning off the camera. Avoid reaching out to turn off the filming during this time. Alternatively you could have someone else to film you.
Privacy and Consent
Your privacy is important to us. Please read our Volunteer Privacy Policy to understand how we handle your personal data, images, and videos. By submitting your content, you agree to these terms.
