All You Need is Lungs cited in new JAMA review

A new global review published in JAMA has recognised All You Need Is Lungs and See Through the Symptoms as examples of awareness campaigns helping to challenge stigma and support earlier diagnosis of lung cancer.

The paper - Lung Cancer in Nonsmoking Individuals: A Review - brings together genomic, environmental and clinical data showing that about 1 in 5 lung cancers occur in people with no smoking history, many linked to ALK or EGFR gene changes.

Under ‘Practical Considerations’, the authors note:

“Proactive follow-up of respiratory symptoms … regardless of a patient’s smoking history, could lead to earlier-stage lung cancer diagnosis, a message echoed by awareness campaigns such as See Through the Symptoms and All You Need Is Lungs.”

This recognition reflects the growing importance of public awareness and patient-led communication in improving understanding and reducing stigma around lung cancer.
