First they thought I might have myeloma but it was lung cancer

There was a 3 month period in which I ping-ponged between my GP and the local hospital, as they tried to identify the cause of my deteriorating condition.

I'm Shaun, I'm 54 and live in London. I'm an accountant who loves running and travelling.

When I was diagnosed in 2022, it was stage 4 ALK+ lung cancer. An earlier X-ray of my painful shoulder blades revealed nothing unusual. The hospital sent me back to my GP who immediately referred me back to the hospital for more tests. There was a 3 month period in which I ping-ponged between my GP and the local hospital, as they tried to identify the cause of my deteriorating condition.

I value greatly my travels when I can manage them, and I find my self care through running, exercise and generally keeping busy.

"Most of us with oncogene-driven lung cancers, such as ALK, EGFR, ROS1, etc. are very different to typical lung cancer patients and consequently it will often take several months for an accurate diagnosis."
