Shaun was told he could have myeloma but it was advanced lung cancer
There was a 3 month period where I ping-ponged between my GP and local hospital, as they tried to work out what was wrong.
I'm Shaun, I'm 54 and live in London. I'm an accountant who loves running and travelling.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 ALK+ lung cancer in 2022. An earlier X-ray of my painful shoulder blades revealed nothing unusual. The hospital sent me back to my GP who immediately referred me back to the hospital for more tests. There was a 3 month period in which I ping-ponged between my GP and the local hospital, as they tried to identify the cause of my deteriorating condition.
I value my travels greatly when I can manage the time for them, and I find my self care through running, exercise and generally keeping busy.
"Most of us with oncogene-driven lung cancers, such as ALK, EGFR, ROS1, etc. are very different to typical lung cancer patients and consequently it will often take several months for an accurate diagnosis."
“I find my self care through running, exercise and generally keeping busy.” - Shaun
